We loved talking to Mikey Sawyer last week and profiling his vineyard. In fact we had the best response to that email of any one we've sent... it must've been the amount of snails the girls gathered.

We also got a lot of congratulations on both the emails about Penna Lane winning Best Wine in Show, and the House of Arras's own Ed Carr winning Best Sparkling producer globally. Most of those focussed on how we choose to work with them and also how they compare to the far more commercial names. Today one of the large London wine merchants were offering another great Riesling producer - Grosset's Polish Hill. No doubt a fabulous wine but it will set you back about £50 a bottle that the judges at the Clare Valley wine show didn't think was better than our 2023 Penna Lane Watervale Riesling is £18.50 a bottle or just £108 a case of 6)

They also sent out the lovely Tolpuddle Pinot Noir, which for the 2023 will set you back £360 per six. A good wine for sure, but equally a friend mentioned today how he can't believe how we've managed to source our 2010 Mosquito Hill Single Vineyard (£37.50 a bottle, £222 for 6) and 2012 Seven Barrels, with all that age, glorious quality and at close to half the price of the Tolpuddle above.

The short answer is, we will only ever buy wine that we love, so that way if you don't like it, we've got more to drink in our own cellars. We hand pick every wine, making sure that they fit our family run ethos; that they meet an affordability criteria and importantly that the wine is top quality.
