We have an apology to make. When we sent last weeks email we said "What a scorcher." Like a bad omen, the weather turned and instead of sipping Sawyer white and Arras sparkling in the sun, we ended up drinking red wines to keep warm.
That's the great thing about wine though. You can find the perfect wine to match any occasion. I was at lunch the other day and we drank a beautiful Chardonnay that complimented both the Octopus and the meat we were eating. On Sunday at Ben's house for his annual Harv-a-palooza, both Common Mollys slipped down perfectly with the steak and ribs. Some preferred the Sangiovese like PJ, and others, like Ben, preferred the Grenache. (We still have a few cases remaining at our incredible promotional price of only £20 per bottle!).
So whatever weather the next few weeks bring, before the British Summer officially kicks off, it's time to think about what you will be drinking. We've been stocking the fridge with 2023 Auld Family Wine Rose. Provencal style Grenache rose made from 60 year old bush vines, yet still only 12% ABV. £17 per bottle and £96 a case of 6.
If it's something light but with a little more body, give Oakdene's 2019 Bernards Cabernets a go. Grown on the Mornington Peninsula on Victoria's southern coast, and runs a little colder than some of our other wines. Merlot dominated and goes well with a spring lamb or a delicately spiced chicken. £24.50 a bottle or £143 a case of 6. And at 12.4% ABV it will appeal to those who like to escape hangovers!
