What we'd really like to find, we said when we started AV, would be a fabulous old Pinot Noir that reminded us of all those delightful old Burgundies you used to find of wine lists in Beaune before everything tripled in price and all the old vintages got cleaned out by the rapacious demand for aged burgs. "You mean like this 2010 barrel aged Pinot made from French vine clones you mean?" came the reply from Dan Franklin at Mosquito Hill as we first chatted to him over breakfast. Blimey. A fabulous wine that has the hall marks of an aged Nuits Saint Georges. Lovely soft fruits with great long, powerful finish and smooth tannins from that age. Colour wise it certainly looks younger than it's 14 years! Drinks perfectly with a special meal and some great friends; some roasted field mushrooms risotto or lamb chops and potato dauphinoise. ABV 13.3%
