Australian Pyrenees, Victoria

RedHeads began in 2002 as something close to a rebellion. Spotting South Australia's untapped potential, a group of talented young winemakers set up a studio to get their hands on exceptional parcels of fruit and make wines with genuine personality — small-batch, sustainable, vegan-friendly, and never the same twice. Now based in the Barossa, they work with over twenty grape varieties, each kept separate through the winemaking process, and it's their blends where that playfulness really shines.

The Vin'Atus is a swaggering trio of Spanish grapes — Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha — grown at One Tree Hill between the Barossa and Adelaide Hills, where warm days and cool night air off the hills slow the ripening beautifully. Spanish starlets, but 100% pure Aussie: dark cherry fruit, spiced plum, silky tannins and a smoky, toasty length.

The R'Dotto Royale, nicknamed the five-card trick, is a blend that shouldn't work and absolutely does — Barbera, Montepulciano, Nebbiolo, Sagrantino and Sangiovese folded into one silky, moreish Italian-style red that has collected gold medals across multiple vintages.

Two blends, two countries' worth of grapes, one unmistakably Australian sense of mischief.
