The Clare valley is riesling country. The wine produced in "The Clare" has become synonymous with the perfect expression of bone-dry, lightly floral, thirst quenching riesling which Australia is now simply the best producer of. But there is so much more to the region with some incredibly famous names making some of Australia's (and the world's) best wines from stunning (and hugely priced) Shiraz, along with a coterie of vineyards now producing excellent new "old world" wines like Sangiovese, Fiano & Vermentino.
Penna Lane Wines is a small vineyard that consistently produces high quality wine. The vines hug the hillsides of the beautiful Skilly Valley which is a subregion of the Clare Valley and runs between the townships of Sevenhill and Watervale. It is home to a small number of premium wineries and produces wines that are considered some of the best in the Clare Valley.
The current owner Peter Treloar, has a connection with the Clare wine region that began five generations ago.
In 1854 Peter’s ancestor, Francis Treloar, planted the first vines in the district of Watervale, the area most associated with world class riesling.
Penna Lane Wines has been recognised both nationally and internationally with numerous gold medals, trophies and five-star reviews from Norway, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.
Recently, their 2022 Watervale Riesling was awarded the Jim Barry Trophy for Best Wine of Show, as well as the Mick Knappstein Trophy for the Best Current Vintage Riesling, Best Riesling of Show and Best Single Vineyard Wine. Not to be left out, the 2022 Skilly Valley Riesling was listed by James Suckling at number 20, in the top 100 wines of Australia. We are frankly delighted to be selling Pete's wines!
