Six generations before Sam & Jock Auld started making wine, their pioneering great-grandfather was planting some of South Australia’s very first vines. He also found time to join Stuart's expedition to cross Australia from South to North in 1862 on his horse Wilberforce, the name of one of their wines today. Wine has been in the family ever since!
Over 150 years later, they are producing a diverse array of delightful wines, that capture the rich environment of South Australia, adding another chapter to the family’s storied history. Their range encompasses the Mediterranean grapes of the Common Molly wines, through the brilliant Wilberforce range up to the brilliant William Patrick Shiraz at the top off the pile.
A surgeon by profession, owner & winemaker Glyn Jamieson cemented his love for the French styles of winemaking, when he took study leave in France with his late wife, Elizabeth. After returning to Australia, they purchased a 200-acre property & Mosquito Hill Wines was born. Two vineyards were established in the 90s & in 2004 the property’s first wine was produced.
In 2011 they built a state of the art winery on the property and since then Glyn has been making the wine himself. In 2022 Dan Franklin joined Mosquito Hill and brings his wealth of experience to the winery.
The domain continues to aim for the styles of Champagne & Burgundy without downplaying the flavours of the origins of the wine. New world in name only?
The owner of Penna Lane, Peter Treloar has long connections to the Clare Valley. In 1865 Peter's ancestor Francis acquired land in Watervale and planted the first vines in the area which became known as Springvale.
Today Penna lane's vineyards, purchased in 2009 are recognised as one of the best in the Clare Valley with wines that are protected from the harshest of the summer heat due to the altitude of the estate. Fabulous, award winning wines are the result of the great care taken from planting to production!
Their riesling was the very first wine Ben tasted when he visited the Barossa and remains in the benchmark for the quality of wines that Australia is capable of producing, and we want to discover.
Owned by Michael & Zoe, the Sawyer Wine Co. was born in the Vintage of 2018 after a life long dream to create wines. Michael has been in the industry for more than 20 years making wines in the Rhône Valley, Willamalette Valley, the Riverland and McLaren Vale.
He now anchors his talents in the Adelaide Hills, the region that yields exceptional fruit and allows them to create small batch, hand picked fine wines. Crafted thoughtfully with a bright energy and individuality.
The Sawyer wines are every bit as brilliantly made as their branding is beautiful. You can happily judge this book by its cover as the wines inside ooze Mikey's passion and intelligence as a winemaker.
Founded in McLaren Vale in an old restaurant called RedHeads, it was used by moonlighting winemakers to break free from the corporate shackles and make wines they wanted to. Tiny batches, hands-on, interesting blends and big flavours.
These days the team are based in the Barossa in a custom-built winery but their principals are the same. They hunt down premium parcels of fruit that was destined to be blended into some big name, nondescript wine and give it the attention it deserves in the RedHeads winery.
With over 20 different varietals kept in the winery they go on to form wines with individuality and unique character. No two wines are the same.
We really loved their truly different approach to wine-making and feel that their approach to creating genuinely different, but incredibly drinkable wines. We are very proud to stock their wines in the UK.
Common Molly is a different project for Jock & Sam which is all about creating more modern styled wines, whilst keeping with the same approach to using the highest quality fruit available.
The fruits for their wines are sourced from both the Barossa and the McClaren Vale and include parcels from some very serious growers.
Their Grenache & Sangiovese are brilliant varietals that show a much more modern style of wine making, but with no less skill. The cool labels and bottles are a perfect window into what is inside!
Ed Carr has become something of an iconic winemaker these days. But back in 1988, he wanted to create world class sparkling wine, and wound up in Tasmania.
The cool climate, pristine nature and ancient, rich solid created the perfect environment to craft these amazing wines. In 1995 House of Arras was founded - the name ‘Arras’ means ‘rich tapestry’. Today, House of Arras is Australia’s most awarded sparkling wine brand with an unparalleled reputation.
We have come to work with House of Arras and are delighted to be one of their very few suppliers to the UK. Their wines are rich and perfectly created from the delightful non-vintage crus all the way to their ultra-premium cuvées which we are privileged to be able to carry.
Hand Crafted wines from the Bellarine peninsula.
We met Father and daughter team Steve and Izzy at the Australia Trade tasting in Jan 2024. They were so energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about what they were doing. Could the wines live up to the glorious energy of the family that made them??
You bet they could! after spending a few hours in the pub with them afterwards we waddled home with a six pack to taste and the rest is history.
Located on the Bellarine Peninsula, just South West of Melbourne the regions cool maritime climate is perfect for producing low yielding, high quality fruit, which in turn creates the kind of beautiful deep fruit Shiraz and Cabernets we crave.
